Joseph Capriati has returned to his own Metamorfosi Records with “Control,” a collaboration with fellow Italian artist GENNARO that marks his second release on the imprint and his first time sharing production duties with another artist under the label’s name.
The pairing is an all-Italian one, and it works precisely because neither artist sounds like they are doing the other a favour. Capriati brings the weight and Ibiza-tested pressure that has defined his name across years of large-scale club and festival bookings. GENNARO, hailing from Ischia, brings something different — a sharper, jazz-infused house sensibility built on a breakout 2024 run and a string of releases across the international house circuit. Put the two together and you get a track that has genuine tension running through it, the kind that comes from two artists with distinct musical languages finding a shared frequency.
What “Control” does well is resist the temptation to lean entirely on Capriati’s established identity. The groove leads. The rhythm section handles the functional work underneath while sax touches add warmth and a live-feeling looseness to a production clearly built for the floor. A lead vocal hook gives the record an easy point of recognition without tipping it into something obvious. GENNARO’s influence is not cosmetic. For GENNARO, the release represents a significant step. Pairing with Capriati on the latter’s own label, with the Metamorfosi residency providing a live context for the music, puts him in front of an audience that might not have found his deeper house work through his previous releases alone. The collaboration earns that exposure rather than simply borrowing it.
“Control” is the kind of record that can sit inside a larger Capriati set without sounding like a placeholder between heavier moments.
