Primavera Sound Halts Multiple Sets Due to Weather

The opening night of Primavera Sound Barcelona 2026 was brought to an abrupt halt on Wednesday, June 4, after severe weather swept across the festival site, forcing organizers to cancel multiple headline performances and temporarily evacuate sections of the crowd.

Programming had only just begun around 7:30pm CEST when conditions deteriorated sharply. Heavy rain and wind gusts reaching up to 80 km/h (50 mph) made it impossible to safely continue operations across several stages. Spanish meteorological agencies AEMET and Meteocat had already placed a yellow weather warning — the lowest tier in their alert system — over the area before the night began, though the severity of what followed caught many attendees off guard.

The first casualty of the evening was Alex G, whose 8:50pm slot on the Revolut stage was scrapped entirely. The area around that stage was also temporarily evacuated as staff enacted safety protocols. „The established safety protocol dictates that it is not safe to hold concerts in such strong winds,“ organizers stated. Doja Cat, also scheduled for the Revolut stage, was next to be pulled from the lineup. Over on the Estrella Damm mainstage, both Massive Attack and Bad Gyal saw their sets derailed by the conditions.

Massive Attack’s situation added another layer of confusion to an already chaotic evening. Originally slated for 9:55pm, their set was rescheduled to 12:30am — a change that a number of attendees said was not communicated clearly enough. Several fans, unaware of the rescheduled time, had already left the site by the time the Bristol group were due to take the stage, a frustration that compounded the general sense of disappointment across the crowd.

The last-minute nature of the cancellations hit hard for many who had planned their night around those headline acts. Massive Attack, Doja Cat, and Bad Gyal represented three of the most anticipated billings of the opening evening, and their removal from the schedule left a significant gap in what was meant to be the festival’s grand opening statement for 2026.

Organizers addressed the situation directly, acknowledging the mood among attendees. „We understand and share the frustration and disappointment of the audience regarding this situation, which is not what we had hoped for on the first day of Primavera Sound Barcelona 2026,“ their statement read. „The festival organisers followed the established safety protocols at all times and prioritised the safety of the audience, artists and staff above all else.“

In response to the disruption, Primavera Sound has offered refunds equivalent to the value of a Thursday ticket. The specifics of how to claim that refund are expected to be shared on Monday, June 8, giving affected attendees a few days to wait before the process becomes clear.

Despite the rough start, the festival continues. Night two brings a considerably stacked lineup, with Skrillex, The Cure, PinkPantheress, and Ethel Cain all scheduled to perform. Whether the weather will cooperate remains to be seen, but organizers will be hoping the opening night chaos stays firmly in the past as Barcelona’s most prominent annual music gathering attempts to right itself over the coming days.
