Megan Perez-Carpenter is the Senior Producer of Music and Content for Lightning in a Bottle (LIB) and also curates the Do LaB stage at Coachella. Her responsibilities include booking musical acts for the Lightning, Woogie, and Thunder stages, curating Crossroads crew nights, and programming the Moon Room, a new ambient late-night lounge area.
Beyond music, Perez-Carpenter oversees yoga classes, workshops, family programming, and art spaces at LIB. She is involved in the booking process from initial conversations to contracting, advancing, and outward-facing communication.
Perez-Carpenter says she begins thinking about the next year’s festival almost immediately after the current festival concludes. She starts formulating headliner offers soon after the festival ends.
Perez-Carpenter’s first LIB was in 2011 as the artist relations manager. She now co-leads the music programming with Jesse Flemming, one of the festival owners. Together, they manage music programming for both Lightning in a Bottle and the Do LaB stage at Coachella.
Perez-Carpenter says she addresses the issue of diversity in festival booking by intentionally making equity part of the programming process from the start. She tracks the artists she books to ensure a diverse lineup, noting that without intentionality, the desired result is unlikely to be achieved.
