RTIK has returned to Magnetic Magazine Recordings with The Things That Remain, a three-track EP available now on Beatport. The release follows his earlier remix work with the label, including a well-received rework of “Lillian” that drew attention to his measured, deliberate approach to production.
The EP spans a notable range of tempos across its three originals. The title track opens the record at 114 BPM in Db major, followed by “Lovedown State,” which moves at 132 BPM in F minor. The EP closes with “Need This Loving,” a slower cut at 70 BPM in G minor. Rather than feeling disjointed, the spread is held together through consistent tone and restraint, with each track serving a distinct purpose within the overall release.
“Lovedown State” carries the most direct club energy of the three, making it the most immediately functional for DJs working a dancefloor. The title track and “Need This Loving” operate at a slower pace, building tension with more patience. Together, the three tracks offer a range of use cases while remaining clearly connected to the same creative sensibility.
RTIK has spoken previously about his production philosophy, emphasizing that the process of making a track holds value beyond the finished result. That perspective is reflected in the arrangements here — percussion that is functional without feeling overworked, melodic writing that avoids unnecessary layering, and structures that leave deliberate space rather than filling every available gap. The tracks do not rush toward resolution.
His remix of “Lillian” had already signaled this approach. Rather than pulling source material into an entirely different direction, he identified what resonated and built outward from there carefully. The Things That Remain extends that same instinct across three original compositions, giving a fuller picture of how he works when the ideas originate entirely with him.
For producers, the EP offers a clear example of committing to decisions and allowing tracks room to develop without overproduction. For DJs, it provides material with genuine dynamic range — from the floor-ready energy of “Lovedown State” to the slower, more atmospheric tension of the surrounding tracks.
