Simina Grigoriu is back on Drumcode LTD with Frame Control, a four-track EP dropping on 12th June that finds the Berlin-based producer working at her most precise and purposeful. Following two previous outings on the Adam Beyer-affiliated imprint — Declare Me and Divine Assignment — she returns with a body of work that feels both instinctive and exact, built around movement, contrast and carefully sculpted atmosphere.
Across its four tracks, Frame Control holds a clear internal logic. There is no chasing of big moments for the sake of it. Instead, the EP moves with discipline — rolling pressure, clean percussion and low-end weight that make sense in a dark room when the system is doing the talking. Structure and release are in constant conversation throughout, channelling hypnotic momentum and sharp percussive design into something that feels connected from start to finish.
Two of those tracks have been given the premiere treatment ahead of release. ‘Coconut Milk’, the EP’s second cut, follows the commanding title piece with heightened energy. Hypnotic percussion sits alongside warm, evolving textures and groove-led momentum, while a subtle sense of swing runs beneath the driving framework, allowing the track to breathe without ever losing its focused pressure. It is peak-time techno with a craftsman’s attention to detail — rolling forward with confidence while leaving just enough space for the groove to lock in properly.
‘Liminality’ operates in a different register. Described as the deeper weapon on the EP, it works with propulsive drums, spacious pressure and shifting details that never overcook the arrangement. It sits in that sweet spot between heads-down warehouse tension and peak-time release — a track that does not announce itself loudly but earns its place through restraint and clarity. Where ‘Coconut Milk’ pushes forward with momentum, ‘Liminality’ holds its ground and lets the room do the work.
Together, the two tracks illustrate the range Grigoriu is working with across Frame Control. The EP does not flatten everything into a single mode. It moves between intensity and space, between groove and pressure, finding contrast without losing coherence — which is precisely what separates a well-constructed EP from a collection of tracks that happen to share a release date.
Grigoriu has been building toward this kind of focused output across almost two decades of releases and performances. As the founder of Kuukou Records and a regular presence on labels including Terminal M, OFF Recordings and We Are The Brave, she has consistently refined a sound rooted in discipline and momentum. Drumcode LTD, the sister imprint to Drumcode, has long been a home for forward-thinking, dancefloor-driven techno, and Frame Control sits comfortably within that lineage without simply repeating it.
At a moment when plenty of techno releases lean on spectacle or trend-chasing to make their mark, there is something quietly striking about a record that simply commits to doing the job well.
