Premiere: Amonita breaks the heavy dream with ‘Wake Up’ on Rubicunda

Barcelona-based DJ and producer Amonita has unveiled her new single ‘Wake Up’, out now on her own imprint Rubicunda. Premiering exclusively via When We Dip, the track marks catalogue number RBCND032 on the label she founded in 2021 and continues to develop as a home for warm, emotive and melodic club music.

Written from a personal place, ‘Wake Up’ addresses the experience of becoming so absorbed in one’s own problems that the wider reality surrounding them fades from view. Amonita has described the concept as that borderline state in which a person sinks into their difficulties as though into a heavy dream, losing sight of everything beyond it. The track frames that moment of realisation as its emotional core, arriving at dancefloor tempo without sacrificing the introspective weight behind it.

Musically, ‘Wake Up’ is built on a tight, patient rhythm section rolling at 122 BPM, a pace that reflects the measured restraint Amonita has become known for across her output. Airy arpeggios move across the top of the groove, opening the arrangement into a broader, more expansive space. A spoken philosophical passage cuts through the centre of the track, providing the moment of emotional clarity the concept calls for. By its final section, the record functions less as a straightforward dancefloor tool and more as a deliberate prompt to shift perspective.

Rubicunda has been operating since 2021, and in that time has hosted releases from artists including Makebo and Izhevski alongside Amonita’s own work. The label’s catalogue has developed a reputation for threading hypnotic groove together with genuine emotional resonance, and ‘Wake Up’ sits squarely within that identity. It is the kind of release that reinforces why the imprint has become a reference point within the melodic and organic electronic music space.

For Amonita, the single represents another step in a trajectory built on consistency and a clearly defined artistic voice. Her work has always drawn from personal experience, but ‘Wake Up’ is notably direct in its intentions, functioning simultaneously as a dancefloor record and a quiet, considered confession. The full premiere is available now via When We Dip.
