New York-based DJ and producer Lars has released “No Stranger,” a new single that arrived on June 17 and received an early premiere on Magnetic Magazine’s SoundCloud page. The track draws on 15 years of club experience, with Lars having built his reputation across New York’s electronic circuit through self-hosted events and support slots alongside Armin van Buuren, Above & Beyond, Eric Prydz, MEDUZA, Benny Benassi, and MK.
“No Stranger” opens from a darker, percussive foundation built around tech-house drums and a heavy low-end, before a vocal hook opens the record without pulling it from the dance floor. Lars has described the goal as creating something “heavy and atmospheric enough for a dark room” while still carrying a lyric that stays with listeners after the night ends. In the production process, the driving groove came first, built with Chicago club rooms and their sound systems in mind, with the vocal contrast added once the percussion and low-end felt settled.
In an interview with Magnetic Magazine, Lars spoke about how his understanding of club records has shifted over his career. Where early instincts centered on energy alone, he now focuses on placement — identifying where a record belongs within a set rather than simply how hard it hits. He also noted that he freestyles his sets rather than planning them in full, allowing him to read the room through body language and crowd response and adjust direction in real time.
On the production side, Lars described DJing and studio work as still feeling like distinct disciplines. The immediate physical feedback of a live set contrasts with the slower, more deliberate process of translating ideas into finished sounds. He credits the point where his technical ability caught up with his ear as the moment production began to feel natural, while still leaving space for unplanned experimentation in the studio.
The single arrives ahead of a significant live milestone. Lars is scheduled to perform at North Coast Music Festival in Chicago on Friday, September 4 at 4:45 PM CST — a step toward larger festival stages from the club rooms and self-hosted events that shaped his earlier career. Looking beyond that date, he has outlined plans for a connected release schedule through the rest of 2026 and a push into bigger rooms and festival slots, with an aim to expand the visual side of his live show while retaining the directness that defines his club-focused sound.
