Brazilian producer, songwriter, and vocalist JP Castro has built a reputation creating melodic electronic music that blends club sounds and songwriting. His latest single, „Every High,“ emphasizes subtlety.
Castro handles all aspects of his music creation, from writing and recording to mixing. He says this level of involvement is essential to his creative process, as he enjoys making music and has done so since he was around 14 years old. He also enjoys sharing his music as it nears completion.
Castro says that when creating music, he focuses on making something he is passionate about rather than adhering to specific genres or label expectations. Melody is the most important element for him, and he aims to create songs that he loves, hoping the world will appreciate them too.
Castro’s work includes club-focused releases, melodic songwriting, Brazilian music projects, and collaborations with artists such as Maz. He views his work as a cohesive whole rather than contradictory, and he avoids copying trends. He is decisive about the music he loves and wants to share.
Opening for artists like Black Coffee and sharing stages with Eric Prydz and Diplo has inspired him, even though their musical styles may differ from his own. He says that those experiences have influenced his approach to songwriting.
Castro recalls listening to music from a young age and feeling a strong connection to melody. At around age 12, he was inspired to create music that could impact people. He says he never explicitly aimed for crossover success but rather focused on combining elements he loves.
Castro says that being himself feels necessary and that he has not felt pressure to make his music sound more stereotypically Brazilian. His tracks „Through My Mind“ and „All For You“ gained a wide audience early in his career, but this did not change his confidence or create pressure. He values sharing his perspective through his music.
Despite his young age of 24, Castro has performed at events like Tomorrowland Brasil and clubs such as Green Valley and Laroc Club. While he acknowledges the focus on achievements, he prioritizes purpose in his work.
