Brazilian artist JP Castro, a 24-year-old producer, songwriter, and vocalist, has released a new single titled „Every High.“ Castro handles all aspects of his music production, from writing and recording to mixing.
Castro says that creative control is essential to his process, stemming from his early start in music production around the age of 14 or 15. While he values his autonomy, he also enjoys sharing his work during the final stages.
Castro says he does not intentionally hold back elements or consider genre constraints when creating music. His primary focus is melody, aiming to create songs that resonate with listeners. He incorporates diverse influences, including pop music, into his work.
Castro views his diverse musical projects, including club tracks, melodic songwriting, Brazilian music, and collaborations, as complementary rather than contradictory. He avoids copying trends, focusing on sharing music that excites him.
Performances alongside artists such as Black Coffee, Eric Prydz, and Diplo have inspired Castro, influencing his approach to tension, pacing, and songwriting. He emphasizes the importance of great music, regardless of genre.
Castro says he was driven by a desire to create music that could impact people emotionally. He says he never explicitly aimed for crossover success but rather focused on combining elements he loves.
Castro says he has not felt pressure to conform to expectations of Brazilian electronic artists. He prioritizes authenticity and self-expression in his music.
The positive reception of his tracks „Through My Mind“ and „All For You“ did not change his confidence or create pressure. He says he remained focused on sharing his perspective through his music, regardless of others‘ opinions.
While acknowledging the significance of playing at venues like Tomorrowland Brasil, Green Valley, and Laroc Club, Castro emphasizes purpose over achievements.
